When you need to omit milk and dairy products from baking, things can get quite challenging – I feel your pain. I can’t digest milk, unfortunately. So I usually use alternative products in recipes, just like in this dairy free vegan chocolate cream recipe.

Giving up eating cheese and yoghurt was one of the most painful decisions I had to make in my life. Of course, you can say these are just different types of food, so eat something different. And you might be right, I admit. But I was a complete cheese fan until it started to cause me unbelievable pain in my stomach and pimples on my skin everywhere. I still steal some of the cheese from my friends’ plate when I can no longer resist, but most of the times I do avoid any dairy product. This is how I figured this dairy-free and vegan chocolate cream recipe.

It might be this vegan chocolate cream recipe is out there already, I don’t claim to invent it. But I couldn’t find it anywhere, so I thought I would share it here because it goes nicely as a filling in our liquid cakes. It has a delicate and silky texture, and it is not too sweet but not bitter either. Of course, if you have a really sweet tooth (unlike me), you might want to add some extra sugar. If you decide to do so, I would add it to the milk once it is hot. This way it would dissolve nicely.

I have used this vegan chocolate cream in Mary Berry’s best chocolate cake baked in a liquid pan. Check it out.

You could ask whether this vegan chocolate cream recipe can be created with other flavours.

I don’t see the reason why not. I have used dark chocolate in this particular dairy free and vegan chocolate cream recipe, but you can go with any chocolate you like. But I wouldn’t use cocoa powder because we use the thickening trait of the cocoa butter here once the cream is in the fridge.

The best is you only need 3 ingredients and approximately 5 minutes to prepare this dairy free and vegan chocolate cream.

So let’s see the recipe finally:

A milk free chocolate cream which is perfect for a vegan or lactose free diet. The vegan chocolate cream can be liquid if you use it after combining the ingredients, but if you wait a bit, you can get a dense and velvety chocolate cream.

Yields12 Servings
Prep Time10 mins

Dairy Free Vegan Chocolate Cream
200 ml boiling soya milk (make sure it is really hot)
200 g dark chocolate (it can be milk or white chocolate as well if you want a different flavour)
200 ml creamy oat fraiche (or any dairy free thick cream)

1

Measure all the ingredients, so it is easy to work quickly afterwards. The good thing is that the creamy oat fraiche comes in 200 ml cups, so you don't even need to measure it. So far this is the only thick cream I found which is dairy free and vegan, but if you know of any alternatives, please leave a comment

At this time your cream will be liquid and runny. Which is just right if you prepare it for a liquid cake, but when you place this runny cream to the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight, the chocolate and the thick cream start to work and you will get a very nice, chocolate cream as the result.
