With the new technology invention of the Zila cake moulds, baking a cake which you can fill with liquid sauce is not a problem. The best part is that you don’t even have to use the same filling in the cake, but 8, 12 or even 16 different creams of jams. This way everybody in the family can enjoy one slice at least.

Baking a cake in the Zila cake mould is just like baking any cake in a regular silicone mould. You shouldn’t forget about the first step of greasing, but otherwise, you can use your usual recipes with the regular steps.

Clean and grease your Zila cake mould.

The first step is to make sure your silicone cake mould is clean, and the stainless steel ring is not wet. Once you assembled the silicone cake base and metal ring, you can apply the release spray layer. You can use a release spray (vegetable oil based separating agent), a cooking spray, a cake release liquids or a homemade pan release mixture. If you are unsure about this step, please read more about greasing techniques here.

Fill the silicone cake mould with savoury or sweet batter.

Just place the sweet or savoury sponge batter into the silicone cake mould. You can use any type of mixture: carrot cake, regular sponge cake or savoury batters. Even pulled pork or pate. Make sure the sponge is everywhere, even in between the little shapes which will eventually help hold the liquid filling.

Release air from the mixture in the mould.

The quickest and most efficient way to remove air from the batter you have in the silicone cake mould is to tap or shake it a couple of times. A few firm taps on the kitchen table will help you reach an even consistency of the paste you use in your Zila cake pan.

Bake your special cake in the Zila mould.

The Zila moulds can be used in the oven and resist to heat 260°C (500°F). On the other hand, you can use the mould in the fridge with no-bake cakes – see our guide here. But usually, 170°C (338°F) should be enough and gives you the right temperature to thoroughly bake your cakes.

Separate the cake from the mould.

Once your cake is out of the oven, you should remove the silicone cake mould immediately. As you applied a layer of separating agent and you have the highest quality of silicone mould, it shouldn’t be a problem. Try not to use any sharp knife or object with the silicone mould, to prevent cutting it. After you removed the silicone base, you can use the help of a knife to remove the steel ring.

Fill and decorate your special Zila cake.

Preparation is the decoration with the Zila cake moulds, so you don’t have to take any special step for decoration. No more icing and no more suffering with fondants. A cake with liquid filling will already be followed by amazement and gratitude, so just use these special silicone moulds and save yourself from extensive decoration.
